It’s Philosopher-Eve again. The question is what’s the impatience with growing up? There are so many things available to kids now that attempt to make them grow up faster and faster. The only thing is that even though so many adult things in this day and age are geared at kids, the kids themselves aren’t really growing up any faster. They may think they are but they aren’t. But what is happening is the kids are finding themselves in adult situations and failing miserably. They’re getting messed up. New drivers are getting great cars and speeding themselves to death or jail or suspended licenses before they’re actually 21 (supposed adulthood). How many college kids used credit cards “out-of-control” and racked up debt and ruined their credit before age 21? And drinking, Good God! Hosing booze directly into your body like you’re watering the lawn? I know kids are supposed to be learning how to be adults as they grow and get through the formative years but key word here is “learning.” And my latest rant, the Ambercrombie & Fitch push-up bikini for little girls? What exactly are they pushing up? They’ve got nothin’! There is an awful lot of disconnect between the reality of being a kid and growing up and what is actually happening to kids in this day and age. Like I said, what’s the rush to grow up? It happens, like it or not. And when you’re 21 and older, you are responsible for yourself. Parents are nice people but you are now over that wonderful age of 21 and you are now responsible for yourself for the rest of your life. Can’t hide behind Mom and Dad anymore. And doesn’t it come soon enough!
